The Next Couple of Months

Things are going to be different for the next couple of months, and honestly, perhaps longer….perhaps permanently. We wash veggies better than before. We lysol the mail and packages that come in. We don’t order from places like Wish, where we know product has come from China or South Korea.

Then we cancelled home health, because I can’t control who the nurses go see, and they see high risk patients. I can’t take the chance. I got a doc who does telephone and video visits for most minor things and she trusts my judgement. I  plan to leave the house myself as little as possible.

Then there’s the family. Shoes come off at the door and stay outside unless/until bleached. The downstairs bathroom is stocked with Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer and sanitizing soap. Hands are washed any time someone comes in from outside for any reason, even if just to check the mail. And n ot just hands, but up the arms like a surgeon would and for longer than usual.

We’ve considered postponing my daughter’s trip to New York to prevent her from being exposed and in crowded area. She’s supposed to go in June. Will this be over by then? Who knows?

COVID=19 is dramatically changing the way a lot of people are living.  And that scares me well enough.

But what scares me  more are the people who believe this is fake news and all  propaganda by the left. There is nothing political about what happened in China, is happening now in South Korea, Iran, Italy. It will be us soon.

We’re not handling it well in American, and it terrifies me. Maggie McDow wrote about her experience with COVID-19 here on Facebook. It is so worth reading, After you read it, I’ll tell you what I think: We’re fucked.

If this is how it’s going to be handled from this point forward, we’re so screwed and don’t even know it.

President T wants to order a cruise ship of 3500 people to stay afloat. That’s what they did in Japan… that didn’t work so well. Now, today, the state department announces they recommend not cruising by ship until this passes. No coincidence there. Don’t cruise right  now. It’s tempting because they are cheap but you can’t take the chance, you just can’t right  now. A cruise ship or airplane are both enclosed breathing systems.

Then again, so is you office. Telecommute as much as you can if you can. Office employees are at risk of spreading it quickly. And for goodness sake, don’t go to work if you’re sick! Even if you just have the sniffles, don’t take the chance. That coworker might be healthy but they could be a part-time caregiver to a parent or child who is not healthy! Don’t take the chance!

That’s my mantra. It’s just a few months in home isolation. I’ve done that much in the hospital with them poking on me. At least this way I have my TV and electronics and you guys to get me through. And maybe I’ll finish my fantasy novel.

I love and need you all.

Stay well.
