So I’m seeking an agent for two of my books that I’ve put a lot of work into. I know one of them is ready but the other I’m hesitating on, wondering what I can do to make it better I always get like this in the editing phase of a book–what can be bettter, how can I make it even better than it is. It’s not goo enough. It’s probably a bit of an inferiority complex, especially with the one book because it is perfect–I really love this book. The other one, I started writing it twelve years ago, and it needs updated. Little things like she carries a pager and I was told by a beta reader that a pager was outdated technology. i don’t know iff that’s entirely true because I still see them used in the hospital and the lead character is a first responder with a pager for that reason.
What do you think? Has the cellphone overtaken the pager to the point where a pager seems outdated? Should I change it?
That’s not the only issue with this book though. I need to beef up the suspense some and work on pulling the reader through the chapters. It’s close, but it’s not there yet. I have an issue with a guy coming to pick up a kid at school too, and that wouldn’t work in real life because you can’t pick up kids without being on the list and having ID.
They are minor changes I know i can make, it’s just that editing takes time and i don’t want to waste an agent’s time with a novel that’s not ready yet.
The first book is ready though and I am both worried and excited to see what the responses are. I’m only searching on agent at a time so it will be slow during process of looking. Frustratingly slow sometimes….but I know it will be worth it when the right agent sees my book and loves it as much as I do!
What about you? Any of you looking for agents or am I the only ‘old fashioned’ one who doesn’t want to self publish right now? I’ve seriously considered it but I want the ooomph from a publisher and agent behind me. I just do.
How have you decided to publish? Small press? publisher? agent and publisher? Self published with your own ISBNs and doing the whole process yourself or self publishing through a place like createspace (kindle direct publishing)…..?I’m curious how you have decided to do it and why, while I’m thinkin of publishing myself. Any ideas or suggestions?
Love and stuff,
Michy
