I have it up on Amazon as a pre-order. 11,000 words and the first part is off to the editor. I plan to put it through three people before I put it out, because my typing is not what it used to be since the strokes. But it’s moving along and I’m feeling like I CAN do this writing stuff still, maybe. We’ll see. If I start getting good ratings on Amazon, I’ll know I’ve failed. LOL Have you seen Stephen King of Chuck Wendig‘s ratings? A lot of them suck. People feel strongly if they don’t like one little thing in a book.
That’s part of why I have learned not to read the reviews. Remember, they aren’t for the writer. They are for other readers. If you are a writer and you read the reviews, you’re going to go crazy. Literally.
One person will like one character trait and another will hate the same thing. I used the word ‘giggle’ 14 times in an entire story and one review said she was going crazy of Jolie giggling over everything. Hey, I giggle a lot when things get sexy. Sex is fun and funny. Giggles rock! Ryan likes my giggles, so there!
See what I mean? It’ll make you crazy.
But I respect reviews. The more the better and a bad review can bring readers too, as long as it’s an intelligent review, so don’t fear a bad or low rating. I have picked up books that had negative ratings because the negative reviews intelligently said things I thought would make me like the book.
Make sure the reader is focusing on the story. Make it good grammar and spelling and as few errors or typos as possible. Then write a damned good story. Shitty first draft, edit edit edit, rewrite, edit, edit, edit, damned good story. That’s how it should go. That’s how it works best for me and should for most writers. Editing and rewriting are part of the game.
And that’s where I am right now with THREE: Infidelity–rewrite and edit edit edit….
